What is the UN Youth Assembly? The aim of UNYS is for Seychelles to be represented at the UN youth assembly each year. The Delegate Package consists of social ventures for sustainable development, Youth Assembly at the UN and cross-sectoral implementation of the SDGs.
New Jersey: Social Ventures for Sustainable Development (SVSD) seminar Prior to the program, delegates are grouped in a team and are allocated a peer mentor in order to develop a social venture project. The seminar aims to highlight and develop vital skills in building and developing a social venture over several lectures. Upon meeting the group’s peer mentor on the first day of the three-day program, delegates begin compiling their group presentation which will be delivered on the last day. On the final day, the social venture will be presented to other teams and judges where delegates are offered the opportunity to implement what was learnt in the preceding days.
New York: Youth Assembly at the United Nations (YA) During the tour of the UN headquarters, delegates are briefed on the pillars of the UN and other UN engagements while touring various sections of the building. Delegates have the opportunity to visit a Permanent Mission of a member country to the UN where they are privy to the mission’s responsibilities and duties. The opening ceremony of the Youth Assembly is conducted in the grandiose General Assembly hall which will be graced by various distinguished guests. The subsequent days include various workshops and panels where social, economic and environmental aspects are deliberated by experts and youth delegates.
Washington: Seminars in international organisations The final leg of the package in Washington D.C. entails visits to international organisations dedicated towards the cross-sectoral implementation of SDGs where delegates are offered an insight into the functions of each institution. In 2017, delegates visited United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA), Sustainable D.C., World Bank and International Monetary Fund. It is an informative avenue to learn about the local and global implementation of SDGs which could provide inspiration for future projects.
