UN Youth is a non-profit NGO Formally registered as a NGO under the Registration of Association Act 2012 on 1 February 2017, focused on facilitating Seychellois youth representation at the United Nations Youth Assembly, whilst also promoting leadership skills, volunteering, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The NGO was founded by Ms Annarose Clarisse, a young Seychellois who was inspired to set it up following the opportunity to attend the United Nations Youth Assembly in August last year at the UN headquarters in New York. Taking place twice a year, the Youth Assembly aims to develop young people to succeed at social ventures and to educate, discuss and suggest innovative ways to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Keen to facilitate access to such opportunities for local youth, UN Youth Seychelles seeks to create a global network of socially-aware youth committed to achieving the SDGs, and provides an outlet for untapped potential. Part of UN Youth’s Calendar of Events is a Youth Ambassador Training Program, a series of workshops on topics ranging from public speaking to the various SDGs to seeking corporate sponsorship. These are designed to prepare any members hoping to attend the UN Youth Assembly or other UN Summits, to ensure Seychelles has well-informed and well-prepared representation at these events. Its most recent event was a talk by Honorable Justice Bernard Georges on 1 February on Constitutional Rights, based on SDG 16, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. The NGO’s first event saw a turnout of more than 30 people keen to learn more about basic rights.
