Special Meeting 2021

UN Youth Seychelles (UNYS) Annual General Meeting was held on April 17, 2021 whereby members voted for the key office bearers inclusive of the Treasurer. In a Board Meeting the elected Treasurer advised the Board of a circumstance beyond her control that requires her to step down from the role where she will serve as a member in the Finance and Accounts Division.

Based on this information the Board decided on the following:
1. To release an application to recruit a new Treasurer
2. To hold a special general meeting for members to vote on the new treasurer.
UNYS received a strong application however, the applicant is 17 years old and will turn 18 years in February 2022. In the spirit of youth leadership and empowerment the Board will not reject the application on this basis but instead invoke Article 13 of the UNYS

Constitution which states:
“No member of the Association shall be elected as members of the Board unless they are aged between 18 to 35. Nevertheless, a member who will be turning 18 soon after the election can be voted as a Board Director and his/her role will take effect on the day s/he turns 18 years.”

The members voted on three motions.
1. Motion to accept the application under Article 13 of the UNYS Constitution
2. Motion to vote for Treasurer – Ms Andrea Jean Louis to be effective on 13/02/2022
3. Motion for nomination of a Treasurer in the Interim – Ms Amy Jean who is currently the Vice President from June 05, 2021 until February 13, 2022

All motions were passed with a simple majority and UNYS is honoured to congratulate Ms Amy Jean as the Vice President and new Treasurer and Ms Andrea Jean Louis a new member as a Finance and Accounts Officer and future Treasurer.

AGM 2019

UNYS held it's 2018 AGM and it started off with the Financial Statements being presented by the Treasurer Ms. Jellissa Julie. Ms. Sanjna Shah then posed the following questions:
  1. What is the difference between conference expenses and travel and meeting expenses?
  2. Who did the grants come from and why is it separate from CSR.
The President explained that this was separated on the basis that travel expenses are separate from conference fees. According to the auditor, although some of those expenses were bore by the participants it should be accounted for and in this case would be listed as a grant to the organisation. In addition, the grants come from both individuals and companies. Those that are separate from their CSR are personal grants and the donor does not plan to offset same from their CSR.

AGM 2016 - 2017

ARTICLE
UN Youth is a non-profit NGO Formally registered as a NGO under the Registration of Association Act 2012 on 1 February 2017, focused on facilitating Seychellois youth representation at the United Nations Youth Assembly, whilst also promoting leadership skills, volunteering, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The NGO was founded by Ms Annarose Clarisse, a young Seychellois who was inspired to set it up following the opportunity to attend the United Nations Youth Assembly in August last year at the UN headquarters in New York. Taking place twice a year, the Youth Assembly aims to develop young people to succeed at social ventures and to educate, discuss and suggest innovative ways to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Keen to facilitate access to such opportunities for local youth, UN Youth Seychelles seeks to create a global network of socially-aware youth committed to achieving the SDGs, and provides an outlet for untapped potential.

Part of UN Youth’s Calendar of Events is a Youth Ambassador Training Program, a series of workshops on topics ranging from public speaking to the various SDGs to seeking corporate sponsorship. These are designed to prepare any members hoping to attend the UN Youth Assembly or other UN Summits, to ensure Seychelles has well-informed and well-prepared representation at these events.
Its most recent event was a talk by Honorable Justice Bernard Georges on 1 February on Constitutional Rights, based on SDG 16, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. The NGO’s first event saw a turnout of more than 30 people keen to learn more about basic rights.
